What to expect

Discover the Château de Vincennes, at the gates of Paris. A former hunting lodge, a royal residence and then a state prison that equalled the Bastille, the Château de Vincennes enables visitors to trace the history of the great kings of France, from Saint Louis and Louis XIII, through to Charles V and Louis XIV. Its 52 metre high donjon is the highest in Europe and provides breathtaking views of Paris.

Thanks to your priority tickets, you will gain access the castle, its holy chapel, the donjon as well as any temporary exhibitions taking place at the time of your visit.

Schedule of the Château de Vincennes

High season (21 May to 21 September) : open every day from 10 am to 6 pm
Access to the Sainte-Chapelle is permitted from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Low season (22 September to 20 May) : Open every day from 10 am to 5 pm
Access to the Sainte-Chapelle is permitted from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm

Warning:
Final admission takes place 15 minutes before closing time
The upper parts of the donjon are only accessible by reservation and with a supplementary fee.

Closed: 1 January, 1 May, 1 November, 11 November and 25 December.

Admission is free of charge for:

  • Guests less than 18 years old (family and school groups)
  • Guests aged between 18-25 years (nationals of European Union countries and non-European regular residents on French territory)
  • Handicapped visitors and a single accompanying person
  • Holders of Culture / ICOM Cards
  • Those currently seeking employment, on presentation of a certificate that is less than 6 months old
  • For all, the first Sunday of each month, from November 1st to March 31st

For everyone:

  • The first Sundays of the month from November to March
  • During the European Heritage Days (the 3rd weekend of September)

Free guided tours are provided in French (duration: about 1h30)

Opening hours: every day at 10:30 am / 2:15 pm / 3:00 pm
Tours can be enjoyed without reservation and free of charge, after payment of entrance fee.
Attention: exceptionally these free tours may be cancelled due to closures, technical or personal reasons.
