What to expect
A masterpiece of Art Deco architecture, the Golden Gate Palace bears witness to the recent history of the French colonial empire. Inaugurated in 1931 for the international exhibition, its primary purpose was to celebrate the diversity of its territories, while also showcasing the influence these territories had on the country's artistic creation. Today, it houses the National Museum of Immigration and the Tropical Aquarium of Paris.
Since 2012, a journey through the intricacies of the magnificent Palace has been offered to visitors. Its aim? To provide essential insights into understanding colonial ideology, as well as to foster historical appreciation for the artistic and architectural subtleties of the building. The frescoes of the forum and the bas-relief of the facade are filled with historical references and allegories. Understanding them is an essential step for anyone wishing to better grasp the history of France.
