What to expect

Generally closed to the public, the reserves of the national furniture open their doors to all those passionate about furniture and textiles, but not just any. One of the most beautiful furniture collections in the world and many hidden treasures can be found in this building designed by Auguste Perret, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

Behind the Scenes of a Four-Century-Old Institution

Founded in 1604, this former Royal Furniture Repository has safeguarded the collections of the National Furniture for over four centuries. Begin your visit with the history of the building and the institution's missions. Then, join the repair and creation workshops with the Gobelins, Beauvais, and Savonnerie manufactures to learn about tapestry techniques. On the first floor, you'll find upholstery materials, including various collectible fabrics, active textiles, trimmings, and velvets. Continue your tour on the second floor and enter the Perret room, the main storage area for the institution's reserves. Among the artworks you'll explore is the tapestry of Notre-Dame Cathedral, woven from a sketch by Jacques-Louis de La Hamayde de Saint-Ange between 1825 and 1833. You'll also encounter prestigious furniture used by the highest-ranking officials of France during the Ancien Régime, now housed at the current Élysée Palace.
