Palace of Versailles
Versailles wasn't built in a day! In fact, the palace was constructed over a period of 50 years by the Sun King, Louis XIV. Following his lead, his successors also wanted to leave their mark, adding extra features until the revolution intervened. Today, Versailles is a wonderful memorial to three centuries of French royal history.

What to expect
In the narrow streets of Le Marais is located one of the most beautiful museums in the City of Paris, the Cognacq-Jay Museum. Housed in a sumptuous private mansion built during the Renaissance, nestled between a courtyard and a garden, it has preserved most of its original interior decorations. As you wander through the rooms, you can admire period woodwork, moldings, and other wrought iron elements. Within this splendid setting, the finest paintings and art objects collected in the early twentieth century by Ernest Cognacq, the founder of La Samaritaine, are on display. Driven by a passion for the Age of Enlightenment, he owned numerous works by François Boucher and Fragonard, as well as pastels by Quentin de La Tour. While these magnificent collections are freely accessible, the same cannot be said for the temporary exhibitions organized several times a year. Remember to reserve your ticket in advance at no additional cost to gain immediate access.Cognacq-Jay Museum Hours
