What to expect

Book your tickets now for Guys and Dolls at the beautiful Marigny Theatre, performed in English with French surtitles. Guys and Dolls was first staged on Broadway in 1950 to instant acclaim and packed houses. Five Tony Awards followed in 1951 as Guys and Dolls became the toast of New York, running for 1,200 performances. Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra headed the cast of the 1955 film version, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, bringing Guys and Dolls to new audiences worldwide and yet more critical acclaim. In Guys and Dolls two radically different worlds collide. Rough, tough, gambling New York gangsters can surely have nothing in common with the wholesome young women of the Save-A-Soul Mission. Or can they?

The story of Guys and Dolls

The musical begins with what seems like a ridiculous bet. Nathan Detroit, a gambling den owner, challenges inveterate gambler Sky Masterson to persuade Sarah Brown, one of the young women of the Save-A-Soul Mission orchestra, to go on a date in Havana, Cuba. What happens is the stuff of love's true dreams, as Sky Masterson turns out to have more heart and Sarah Brown to be less pure than anyone might have guessed. As the old saying goes, opposite poles attract and in Guys and Dolls the magnetic force is there on stage in song and dance. Director Stephen Mear serves up a New York that's simultaneously romantic, glamorous - and threatening too. This boomtown can be dangerous, dirty and difficult. New York's master story-teller Damon Runyon would have been thrilled. Guys and Dolls after all was based on his short stories 'The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown' and 'Blood Pressure'. This cult comedy musical is set for another ovation filled run and is not to be missed.

What a fantastic evening. Easy to book and you can choose your seat ! Theatre Marigny is a real Parisian venue, not a pure tourist attraction. If you have to see one show in Paris, this is Guys and Dolls you need to see.
