What to expect

Welcome to the top of the Arc de Triomphe, the only high point of the Champs-Élysées. At nearly 50 meters high, you will enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Capital. A crossroads of twelve Parisian avenues and commissioned by Napoleon to celebrate French victories, the Arc de Triomphe has been a meeting place for tourists since its inauguration in 1836. Located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, it overlooks the most beautiful avenue in the world. The Eiffel Tower, Place de la Concorde, the La Défense district: few of Paris’s iconic landmarks are not visible from this 360° viewpoint in the center of Place Charles de Gaulle-Étoile.

Practical Information

As part of the security measures implemented during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the monument’s opening hours may be exceptionally adjusted

On Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, opening will be exceptionally postponed to 11:00am.
On Monday, July 13th, 2026, the monument will close early at 9:30pm, with last entry allowed at 8:30pm.

Tuesday opening hours that differ:

From April 1st to September 30th: Tuesdays from 11am to 11pm
From October 1st to March 31st: Tuesdays from 11am to 10:30pm

Access to the top of the Arc de Triomphe can be made on foot via a staircase of 284 steps or by elevator (only accessible to people with reduced mobility), which leads to the attic room (museum space). From this level, there are still 46 steps to reach the terrace.
The duration of the visit to the Arc de Triomphe depends on your preferences. Allow between 30 minutes for a quick visit and 1 hour 30 minutes if you wish to take your time.
The Arc de Triomphe prohibits strollers and tripod stands for cameras and video equipment unless expressly authorized. However, it is possible to leave a stroller with the security staff and collect it at the end of your visit.
This monument is dedicated to the memory of French soldiers and notably houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, whose flame is rekindled daily. For this reason, visitors are required to wear appropriate attire (although no strict dress code is imposed).
For reasons of public safety, bad weather, or ceremonies, the monument may temporarily close its access without entitlement to a refund.

Accessibility for People with Disabilities

For wheelchair users, access via the tunnel connecting the Champs-Élysées to Place Charles-de-Gaulle Étoile is not possible. It will be necessary to be dropped off at a designated “drop-off point” directly on the roundabout. Access to the museum space is then possible via an elevator preceded by three steps (human assistance is required). Access to the Arc de Triomphe terrace is not possible as it requires climbing more than 40 steps. The Arc de Triomphe toilets are also not adapted for people with disabilities.

What to do around the Arc de Triomphe?

The Arc de Triomphe is located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris facing the Champs-Élysées. There is no shortage of things to do before or after your visit. During the day: shopping along the famous avenue, a stop at Ladurée to taste macarons, a Seine river cruise, or an open-top bus tour. At night: cabarets such as the Lido de Paris or the Crazy Horse, a dinner in a traditional brasserie, or a dinner cruise.
Despite appearances, Paris is not very large. For the more adventurous, it is only about two kilometers from the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower—and it’s all downhill! At least three metro lines and one RER line serve Place Charles de Gaulle Étoile, allowing you to reach the other side of the city in less than 30 minutes.

Tourists should be treated with respect and appreciation

While I was watching the ceremony for he lighting of the unarmed soldiers tomb I was very rudely pushed back by a gendarme when I tried to walk towards the front to take a picture. He was nasty and told me no tourists were allowed to approach the tomb. There was no signage and I didn’t cross any boundaries so it was very unnecessary. BE NICE. it soured what my experience of what should have been a peaceful and solemn moment.

They do warn on the website but be aware that the climb to the top via a circular staircase can be quite tiring - there are a lot of steps! There are a couple of 'doorways' (not actual doors) on the way up where you can pause and take a breath, letting others pass by. Once up there the views are great, thoroughly recommended.

Breathtaking views

The most unreal experience and breathtaking views of the city.
Not for the faint hearted however as it's spiral staircases you have to travel up and down I'm, no lift option as far as I could see.
Easy to get to from metro. Lovely and helpful staff.

Place is legit got their info from the official website to the catacombs. Purchased my tickets to the arc de triumph and was able to use no problem.
