A french history lessen not just for the french……
A magnificent building with a history to match. Being able to visit the tombs of such luminaries as Marie Curie and Victor Hugo was a humbling experience. Seeing Foucault’s pendulum was interesting and one in the eye for flat earthers!! All in all it was worth a visit.

Stately building, interesting history, crossing religious and secular; the contrast between the powerful contemporary slavery exhibition and the 19th-century romantic background of republican France was telling.

Ongekende parel in Parijs

The Panthéon, a symbol of French history and values.

The Panthéon, this majestic monument overlooking the city of Paris, is much more than just an architectural structure; it is a true symbol of the French Republic and its rich, complex history. As you walk through its marble-adorned corridors, you feel a deep connection with the great figures who have shaped our country. This emotionally charged place pays tribute to the personalities who have made significant contributions to French thought, science, literature, and even politics.

Entering the Panthéon is like diving into an ocean of memory. The tombs of Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, and Marie Curie remind us of the importance of creativity and commitment to society. Each of these remarkable men and women has left an indelible mark on the values that unite us today: reason, freedom, and equality. This place is not just a pantheon of heroes; it is also a sanctuary for reflection and innovation.

Furthermore, the Panthéon perfectly embodies the republican spirit, celebrating both men and women who have worked for France, regardless of their background or status. It is a space where ideas and ideals meet, a place where every visitor can meditate on the meaning of civic engagement.

In summary, the Panthéon is an ode to humanity and history, a site of remembrance and celebration that invites everyone to reflect on their own role in building a better world. As French citizens, it is our duty to preserve and honor this exceptional heritage, which safeguards our values and collective identity.
