What to expect

Set in the impressive Beaux-Arts surroundings of a former railway station, the Musée d'Orsay houses a world-beating collection of masterpieces from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. You will see not only the work of Van Gogh, famous for his sunflowers, and Manet's landmark Déjeuner sur l’Herbe, but also pieces by Degas, Renoir and Seurat. All of the most famous Impressionist and post-Impressionist works are here, so that you can personally experience the most fascinating period in modern art. You'll also discover l'art Pompier, Fauvism and the work of the Nabi group, with each of these artistic movements having their own particular fascination. With your personal guide, you will feel the real spirit of the Belle Epoque, not only through the paintings, but through sculptural masterpieces and the extravagant furnishings which truly encompass the artistic splendour of France during this extraordinary time.
