Avis Ghost the Musical at Mogador
"Ghost" is an American film by Jerry Zucker released in 1990. Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) and Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) are in a perfect love and move into a large apartment in New York. He is an executive at a large investment bank and she is a sculptor. Everything changes when, on the way home from a night out, Sam is attacked in the street and dies in Molly's arms. He then becomes an invisible and lost ghost, stuck on Earth, who manages to communicate with a somewhat fraudulent, eccentric, and quirky psychic, Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg), to discover his murderer.
The film grossed over 505 million dollars at the box office and attracted more than 3 million viewers in France. Whoopi Goldberg was notably awarded Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, BAFTA, and Oscars. The feature film also received a second statuette for Best Original Screenplay.
Hence the idea of making it a musical. The adventure Ghost the Musical begins in the UK from 2011 to 2013, in Manchester and then in London with over 500 performances. It then exports to Broadway in 2012, continues a tour in North America, and then returns to Europe in Budapest, Berlin, and Copenhagen. In Paris, after Mamma Mia, Sister Act, Grease, and Chicago, it is the Mogador theater that hosts this show from September 2019 to June 2020.

Our opinion on Ghost the Musical
The spirit of the cult film is completely respected, fans will love it. The musical is entertaining and well-paced, you won't get bored. We feel empathy for the young couple separated against their will. The important scenes from the film are well performed: Sam's assault, the pottery, the meeting between Sam and Oda Mae, the "fictitious" reunion of the couple... Everything flows superbly thanks to very well-crafted sets, catchy music, and controlled lighting. A special mention for the scene in the New York subway when Sam learns to control his power.
The songs are, on the other hand, uneven. While some are completely suited to the film's sugary side, others are much less interesting, and we find ourselves laughing at some incongruous lyrics.
“Oh, my love, my darling… I've hungered for your touch.” Unchained Melody is indeed present in its original English version and does not disappoint its reputation as the most beautiful love song. The hit by the Righteous Brothers is beautifully performed by Grégory Benchenafi, who plays the role of Sam. The role of Molly is played by the lovely Dutch actress Moniek Boersma.
Claudia Tagbo is the surprise of the musical. The comedian revealed by the Jamel Comedy Club is excellent in the role of Oda Mae Brown, even if we admire her comedic power more than her singing talents. Note that Claudia Tagbo is only present on Thursday, Friday, Saturday night, and Sunday until January 30, 2020. For the other days, don't worry, it seems that Laura Nanou's talents are not to be missed.
