Avis Ducasse on Seine
Alain Ducasse's Restaurant Boat
Should we still introduce Alain Ducasse, the chef who currently has 9 stars to his name? His floating restaurant project was born in September 2018: Ducasse sur Seine is a 100% electric boat – the first of its kind, moored at the Port Debilly dock right across from the Eiffel Tower. It is completely glassed-in and has two outdoor terraces. This eco-friendly and silent cruise, with no wastewater discharge into the Seine, takes you to meet Parisian monuments and offers contemporary French cuisine dishes prepared by a team worthy of great establishments. No less than 36 cooks and pastry chefs are active on the lower deck, under the direction of Chef Francis Fauvel, as Ducasse sur Seine is the only boat in Paris where products are entirely transformed and cooked on-site.
The dining room
We arrive in a modern and elegant room. The decoration is by Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman. The ceiling captivates us with its stainless steel waves meant to remind us of the Seine. On the floor, the carpet reflects part of the map of Paris. The tables are set with beautiful silverware, and we feel a chic, luxurious atmosphere that is also very friendly. The servers, impeccable and mostly young, welcome us with smiles and good cheer. We are eager to settle in.
The Cuisine
For dinner, we tried the Starry Night formula - 4 courses paired with wines. Several choices are available among the dishes: seafood products like blue lobster or crab meat, and less "mainstream" products like the small hot game pie or sweetbreads. The plates are eagerly awaited as they are so enticing. As for the taste, the balance is subtle and perfect with the vegetables and sauces. For dessert, the citrus composition from Michel Bachès left an unforgettable memory for more than one. We are won over, with a special mention for the wine selection by the sommelier. The food-wine pairing is simply magical.
