The Grande Galerie de l'Evolution in a few words

The Grande Galerie de l'Evolution has preserved the historical collections of the Galerie de Zoologie, inaugurated in 1889, which aimed to showcase the triumph of the French Republic throughout its colonial empire. Closed in 1965 and forgotten, the museum was reopened as the Grande Galerie de l'Evolution in 1994 thanks to the efforts of the National Museum of Natural History, with a new scenography and impressive architectural renovation. Visited by millions of spectators, it is now known and admired worldwide.

Permanent Collections

A true haven of peace, one travels through the centuries with, at ground level, the famous African caravan composed of 63 specimens, and, on the various floors and balconies, different universes where insects, fish, birds, and other mammals are staged in lively, sometimes sad but always touching poses. Some of these creatures have been preserved within these walls for nearly two hundred years!
