What to expect
Visit the Hotel of the Navy, one of the most iconic buildings in Paris. Located at 2 Place de la Concorde in the Eighth arrondissement of Paris, it has been a symbol of the city since its construction in 1774.
The architect behind this masterpiece was Ange-Jacques Gabriel. Born in Paris in 1698, he was one of the most famous architects of his time, holding the title of Premier Architect of the King. Among his notable works are the Place de la Concorde, Hôtel Crillon, Château de Compiègne, Petit Trianon, and the Royal Opera of Château de Versailles. He was also involved in the expansion of the Louvre Museum, the construction of the Luxembourg Palace, and the Château de Rambouillet.
The Hôtel de la Marine is also part of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, an organization responsible for the supervision and maintenance of many important historical monuments in Paris, such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Sainte-Chapelle, and the Conciergerie, as well as throughout France, including the Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey.
Today, the Hôtel de la Marine is open to the public, providing a unique glimpse into the history of Paris. Visitors can admire its exquisite 18th-century-style furnished interiors while enjoying breathtaking views of the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Élysées.
Moreover, the Hôtel de la Marine houses the magnificent Al Thani Collection, one of the most impressive private art collections in the world. Presented by the Al Thani Collection Foundation, this collection consists of over 4,000 art pieces from around the globe, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. The Al Thani Collection was established in the 1990s by Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar. He was a passionate art enthusiast who collected works from various styles and periods.
If you're seeking a truly unique and memorable Parisian experience, be sure to include a visit to the Hotel of the Navy on your list. Whether you're interested in history, art, or simply breathtaking views, the Hôtel de la Marine is truly worth a visit!
